Did the Greeks and Romans believe in their gods? This is certainly a question that the Ancients did not ask themselves because the answer was so obvious to them: the gods existed, and they were everywhere. But beyond beliefs, it was religious practices that were important to the Greeks and Romans, especially the sacrifice, which took place in shrines and invariably ended with a large common meal attended by the entire community. In this sense, the sanctuary was also a place where the community was built and structured.
